An organisation that knows its core capabilities and can leverage these to accomplish its strategy will give itself a greater chance of being successful. Core capabilities are those processes and practices within the organisation that enable value to be added for customers in unique ways and improve its competitive position in the market. For example, one organisation might have a superior customer service capability which enables it to achieve higher customer satisfaction, retain customers for longer, and have more advocates which, in turn, drive more new customers to the organisation. And of course, to accomplish any strategy, an organisation requires specific capabilities which either have to be within the organisation or acquired through recruitment or procurement. So, knowing your core capabilities as an organisation and matching these to realistic opportunities is a path to successful strategy implementation and sustainable performance that no organisation should ignore.
